Colonization in Africa took place in the 1880s however the entire continent was controlled by Europe by the 1990s. The Europeans were not fond of the native traditions and cultures of Africa. They replaced them with their own. The following generations were raised under colonial power, with that being said it is inevitable that they adopt the Western tradition and culture. Post colonialism is seen in this idea where white is better and superior. The video below is from Tyra Bank's TVs show. It talks about black women bleaching their skin because they believe the more white they are, the more beautiful they are. It is sad to see that these black women go out of their way to put harmful chemicals on their skin just to be "white". It definitely shows that black women are impacted by white culture and they no longer feel beautiful in their own skin. From dying their hair blonde to bleaching their own skin, the idea of beauty for them is "white"..
